The Toolbox on Solar Powered Irrigation Systems (SPIS) is a GIZ project and was developed together with FAO as part of the global project Powering Agriculture: An Energy Grand Challenge for Development (PAEGC). The toolbox has now been leveraged to further develop capacity development activities on SPIS (e.g., online training for extension workers and an e-learning course on SPIS in Arabic) as part of the PAEGC successor project Water and Energy for Food (WE4F). The global project WE4F, implemented by GIZ, is the contribution of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the European Union (EU) to the joint international initiative "Water and Energy for Food" Grand Challenge. WE4F aims to promote more sustainable food production along the value chain through the dissemination of water and/or energy efficient innovations.
